Hi everyone! My name is Jacquelyn Carter and I am from Glenview, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. I am a junior double majoring in advertising and public relations. Following graduation next year, I am not exactly sure what I want to do. The past two summers I have had the opportunity to be a photographer at Camp Ozark in Arkansas and am planning on returning this upcoming summer with a leadership role within the photo team. I potentially would be interested in working for the company full time, which would mean moving to Houston following graduation. This is not my long term goal, but is a place I love and may be what I want to do while I am still young for a few years.

Whether I work for Camp Ozark full time or not, I want to end up working in the sports industry. I am passionate about hockey specifically and have worked for the Milwaukee Admirals on their game day operations team. I love the atmosphere and community within the organization. Additionally, I was hired to be a communications intern for the team this season, but due to COVID, the organization decided to opt out of the season. Fortunately, I will have the opportunity to do this internship next season and am very excited to do so.

Within public relations, I am very interested in the creative side of things and social media. I love to create advertisements and other content to represent a brand. I have been a photographer for seven years and my creativity has steamed from that. Additionally, I am interested in creating a cohesive social media presence for brands. Within this class, I hope to become more familiar with the writing aspect of public relations. I have never been the biggest fan of writing, but am excited to learn the different forms necessary for different mediums and hopefully improve my skills.

I have used this blog for several other classes throughout my time at Marquette and am excited to add this class to the list. With my blog, I hope to improve my writing in both a professional way and a casual way. Hopefully I can continue writing about my professional experiences to serve as a portfolio following this class. I want my blog to focus on creativity, social media, or media because these are my interests as they relate to public relations. I am excited for this class and cannot wait to see what everyone else is interested in!
